Direction/Yurio Seki.
Organized by Salvia and directed by textile designer Yurio Seki, the project aimed to produce washi lighting and shoji screens.
The washi pendant lighting is made from Tosa Norigucho-gami, the finest of all washi, also known as “mayfly wings”. Mr. Seki requested something similar to a ballerina’s tutu, and we proposed a detailed design and production method.
Inside the lamp, a movable lace part made of specially shaped Japanese paper is visible when the lamp is viewed from below.
The designed Nakazan shoji was covered with various washi paper patterns including lattice, diagonal, and checkerboard in a random pattern, giving the installations a modern atmosphere.
