Basic ideas and methodology for product design.

As Requ’s handcrafted designs use washi paper, we explained how the products are made with a different approach than industrial products.

The lecture also focused on attempts to introduce digital manufacturing into washi paper through Hineri, Uneri, and other projects.

As a first step in confronting and experiencing traditional craft materials, participants were invited to create their own “koyori washi” by thinking about the pattern and materials to be used. Once completed, the result is analyzed and critiqued.
